Science or computer science?

Hello!!!
I study, perhaps, in the best university in our country, but I just can’t decide: science or programming. If there are specifics, then there is an opportunity in the future to go to TRINITI and engage in scientific activities (ITER project) or transfer to another faculty and go, say, to intel or, for example, to engage in radio engineering. Tell me what do you think?

Depends on your priorities. What do you need in life?
Yes, the salary of a scientist, even in the West, is on average less than the salary of a highly qualified programmer. Especially now, in the age of the IT boom. But this boom cannot be eternal, in contrast to the continuously growing needs of mankind for energy.
It seems to me that if there is an opportunity to engage in ITER, the ability to do it, the inclination to this area should not be missed. If oil is the “yesterday” leaving us, and the controlled decay reaction is gaining strength, despite problems and tragedies, “today”, then thermonuclear fusion is the dawn of the inevitable “tomorrow” barely visible on the horizon. If you manage to kindle this dawn, people will remember you for a long time after death. If it's important to you, of course.

Choose what you like best, don't think about money at all. You will always have time to become a programmer with your mind. But if you like science more, then science is better. And if you like Intel more, then in Intel. And if you want to be a programmer in Yandex, then in Yandex, etc.
When a person at work does what he likes and benefits people without committing a sin, he achieves very good results and becomes happy and very well off financially.
There is such wisdom in Islam: "The ink of scientists on the Day of Judgment will be equated with the blood of the righteous." Those. science is very important for God and those who are engaged in it and develop it are great people.
For example, in my dreams I wanted to become an engineer and work at Intel on SSDs or at Siemens on medical equipment, but I didn’t have enough knowledge and understanding of science, so I became a simple programmer. Of course, there are medical equipment programmers, but I'm not strong in mathematics, so it's better to keep silent.
I think that you will not be mistaken no matter what you choose, the main thing is that you have chosen the right university. I remember reading a story about a mathematician who graduated from Moscow State University, so he now works in the oil industry. Those. higher technical education in a good university is the road to life, and a specific profession is no longer so important.
One of my classmates graduated from MEPhI. At first he worked at Mail.ru as a Java programmer, but then he got tired and went to work as a scientist somewhere in another country (like the United Arab Emirates) and now he seems to be happier than when he was a programmer, he is researching factors that affect climate change. I think he's making a climate weapon for our potential enemies, but he says it's okay, he's studying sandstorms.
And someone likes to study machine learning and make a smart search engine, someone likes to make new processors, someone likes nuclear reactors and rockets - the taste and color.

You can always do programming, because it's never too late to learn.
But if there is an opportunity to engage in scientific activities, then this is a great opportunity to try yourself.

consider when choosing: is there a worthy leader where you are going. A lot will depend on the teacher.

science
It covers one way or another and programming, and radio engineering, and other areas. But at the same time, it makes it possible to do more interesting and diverse things than just engineering work. And you can always return to engineering work. Scientific experience is valued there.
The only exception I would call science in the framework of defense projects. There are many restrictions on personal freedom in working on such projects (restrictions on travel, choice of tools for doing the job, etc.). If there was a choice between engineering work without defense projects and science with a defense project, then I would not choose scientific work.
One more moment.
Scientific work can be lively, necessary and interesting. It can also be simply useless and not interesting - just eating up the project's money. If it does not suit you, then you should either talk to your boss and ask for a more interesting job, or, again, go into engineering work.
