Saving a GIF animation from a browser page. Why .mp4 extension instead of .gif?

Hello.
I don’t know what happened, but for some time now, trying to locally save a gif animation from a site page, any browser offers to do this in the .mp4 extension, although earlier it was recognized as a picture and saved, in fact, in GIF format.

To download in the gif extension, you must first add the animation to yourself in VK as a document and download it from the documents to your PC
