SASS/SCSS or Compass for assembly?

What is more acceptable to use now (in gulp assembly, when laying out), just SASS / SCSS or Compass?
If the customer asks for sass, is it possible to use compass or is it better not to?

Compass significantly slows down the build process, and usually only sprites are used from there, and a couple of functions that are written in a minute. We have given up on him. I'm generally surprised that compass-style.org has earned - for the last six months it was impossible to go there and I decided that even the creators buried the project.
