Russian usernames in Putty?

Instead of Russian letters in usernames, Putty displays rectangles or "#". Tried all fonts and encodings, does not help. Come on display, strange characters are sent to the server instead of the username.
What to do and how to set up Russian encoding when entering a username?

Try not to use Russian characters in logins. This is bad practice. Username please. Username is not the same as username.

Gleb is a seeker of problems on his ... neck and ... no, not a pioneer in this matter at all :) Non-ASCII characters are not recommended to be used in logins because of their ambiguity.
