Running VirtualCDBase on Windows 7?

There is a rather high need to use VirtualCDBase (v1.122) from time to time. Since a large number of recorded discs have been accumulated, I recorded them by numbers and cataloged them to her. It was comfortable enough. But with the forced transition to Win7, I ran into a backward compatibility problem. Generally speaking, initially it worked. But now it refuses to start.
There is some speculation that this may have happened after installing new VS_vcredist and the like (something that Steam installs when new games are installed), but unfortunately that's just speculation.
The program was developed a long time ago, the official site (if it even is one) is barely alive.

Can you suggest any solutions? I don't want to install a virtual machine. Since the program must be run occasionally, for half a minute. What is noteworthy is that under Wine I also didn’t take off in Linux, but there I didn’t suffer for very long. Under XP everything worked like clockwork.

In my case, so far the most effective solution was to use Windows XP Mode.
