I don’t even know how to call it correctly =)
Are there any "emulators" of the router (s)?
Something like you install on your computer as a program (or as something "other") and could you feel it?
To test for security, look at the settings (without a manual), well, etc.

Cisco Packet Tracer, но он достаточно ограничен и только под одного вендора, с не всем оборудованием.
На сайте D-Link были примеры интерфейсов части оборудования, можно было поиграться пощелкать.
У микротика можно скачать RouterOS x86 и сутки играться в бесплатную версию
