Relationship between yum and isql?

Tell me, what is the connection between yum and isql? If isql 1.6 was installed 1.7, they say that after that yum dependencies flew off and when reinstalling from 1.7 isql to 1.6, yum broke. How true is the statement? plz help clarify the situation, and if there is a link to clarify this issue, then I would be very grateful to you! Thank you
