Reinstall Ubuntu without formatting /home directory, lose info?
Good day. There is now Xubuntu, I want to switch to Kubuntu, the question is this. When installing Xubuntu, I specified the username, let's say Danny. The home folder is of course named the same (/home/danny).
If, when installing Kubuntu, I format the root directory with the system, but I do not format the home directory (/home/danny) so as not to lose data, and when installing the system I create a user with the same name - Danny, will I lose information from the home directory? I'm not sure, but wouldn't it be possible for the system to just delete the home directory on creation, creating a new one - empty? Or leave the directory as is?

Not directories are formatted, but disk partitions. If your /home is not on a separate partition (the installer doesn't do this by default), then you will lose everything when formatting the root partition. Because if you have no experience, copy your /home to backup media.
And for some reason, none of those who answered said the most important thing: "reinstall Linux" is an anecdote. Even for a riot.
Why reinstall at all? You only change the environment from X-face to KDE. You don't need to reset your system to do this...
