Recommend an ICQ client instead of QIP
I've been using QIP for a long time, despite their nasty habit of hiding options I don't need (auto-configure default homepage and search) under a custom install button. Somehow it suited me, I was not too lazy to remove these checkboxes during installation. This morning I turned on my work computer and saw a suggestion to install a new version of qip - install it right away, it had previously downloaded itself. Installed and without my knowledge received a new default search from their domain. It's disgusting.
Please tell us what icq clients do you use, what do you like about them? Do they support different services? Maybe I've lagged behind life a long time ago, ICQ is morally obsolete, and it's time to switch to pneumatic mail?

I myself have been looking for a long time where to go with qip and found it - trillian.im now I don’t even know why I didn’t immediately find it.
This is happiness, I rejoice every time, just when I launch it (he can also launch Skype in the background, you can communicate from a trillian).
And all the cross-platform stuff in Windows looks ugly.
If we are talking about Windows, then Miranda.
If you do not want a "constructor", then the Native assembly is very good.
Miranda IM (windows only). Open Source, original multiprotocol (default delivery: ICQ, Jabber, MSN, GG, IRC, Yahoo), gazillion plug-ins (functionality expands to the horizon).
The only negative is that no one wants to take on porting Miranda to other OSes.
rnq.ru - small, smart, unpacked the archive and go. I have been using it for 7 years, then it was still &rq :)
Miranda on her own assembly. Everything is tailored for you, but you need to be prepared to take a steam bath a little))
I recommend pidgin
supports various protocols + has many good extensions and modules
And for QIP, you can do this: qip.exe /isolated /noserv. Or in the login window, right-click on the icon in the header and select the launch settings menu.
Only then will the current profile stop working. You will need to create a new one.
QIP 2005. Haven't seen anything better. The rest of the clients I find redundant.
Somehow there was a need to use a gill and icq in one client. Rummaged through the entire list on the wiki and chose miranda.
Earlier too sat on qip. Now I'm used to miranda.
if you need a client only under Windows, then you won’t find anything better than Miranda , I assure you :)
maybe it will seem like a confused children’s designer to someone, but once you set it up, you can use it for years without any problems
Pidgin as a client and predominantly Jabber as a protocol (Google talk is Jabber).
3 years ago, when spam suddenly started pouring from my ICQ number, I jumped from Quip to R&Q, I was very pleased. And now I would be satisfied if it were not for the need for multiprotocol. Therefore, my choice is Miranda IM Mative
I use Gajim (accordingly, I get along in ICQ through my own lovingly configured transport - there are no problems here, the encoding is always correct and all that).
Why? Probably because it is exactly what an IM client should be. Not annoying, compact after a little finishing, reliable. Well, memory eats, yes ... =) Although these 50-70 meters against the background of 3-4 gigabytes are somehow not felt.
I would recommend qutim or pidgin. I myself use the second one, because. I like its lightness and speed.
I switched to meebo. Cross-platform, all history in one place, several protocols :)
At first it was terribly inconvenient, but now I don’t feel any inconvenience at all!
The web interface has many advantages.
I do not use this kind of messengers now, but before it was Pidgin, it works both in Windows and in the Linux family. Everything in it is quite clear and convenient.
I was looking for a simple and no-frills multiprotocol client at one time . I
came across qutIM and I don’t know the troubles. Everything is as simple as 5 rubles and at the same time convenient.
I would recommend you some clients. Be sure to try them all before choosing
Pidgin, Miranda, RnQ (although this is icq only, I heard that the gabber is only planned there), IMadering is very similar to qip and open source.
You can also have pure jabber clients with transports in icq (although you will have to look for them) - Psi + or Gtalk
Well, try to climb the settings of the Quip and use it without fear of getting into some kind of dirty trick. Isolated mode or the nosrv key, coupled with disabled news display settings, is quite usable.
The fact that auto-update pissed into your browser is entirely our fault, a big mistake was made in the installer. The bug has already been fixed, but this is unlikely to restore your trust, right?
It was necessary to get off the pile when they leaked the base of users with soaps and other things a couple of times to the left. I twice found soaps that were regan only on my servers and only for specific wins in Yandex when I was sitting on a pile.
Yesterday in a couple of hours I made myself an assembly of Miranda. Beautiful, fast, usable, tuneable. Try. ;)
I switched to Trillian: www.trillian.im/learn/tour-trillian5.html
I have been sitting on it for about 4 months and am very pleased. Try.
as I understand it about Windows, I advise miranda LS
pluses
1. Flexible configuration
2. IMHO, even from standard designs, you can choose something worthy
3. Daughter of protocols, I use icq, jabber, mail.ru, vkontakte, weather, gmail
4. In addition, there are additional plugins, for example, a quick search (in a separate window by name, surname, number, etc.), which, in addition to everything, will show the latest appearances on the network, etc.
5. As a result, pleasant and easy to use =)
if tench, then qutIM, as I put it, the desire to look for something better has disappeared, everything is simple and concise
digsby is really lovely.
I've been using it for a year now and I don't want anything else.
it's especially nice how he can hide in a 1px wide strip from the edge of the screen
and the built-in tweeter back and forth.
all the necessary protocols, mail check, skins and other goodies are in place.
