I use Sony Vegas + Virtual Dub. Vegas is a very good and clear editor. Virtual Dub is a good tool for converting and cutting materials.
I join, I use virtually dub + xilisoft video converter. Oh, how inconvenient. But I haven't found an alternative yet.
Sony Vegas, on orestov.com, I also downloaded such lessons for him, which give an understanding of almost all aspects of working with the program.
True, the site does not answer me now, look on torrents. And yet, she has problems with formats - she doesn’t understand many, so there is a reason to use something like formatfactory for converting.
I would not recommend Pinnacle, it limits the possibilities for experiments very much. In general, it’s cool - a bunch of After Effects + Premiere, but if it’s really interesting to poke around. I understand that this does not meet the standards of a “simple video editor”, but if you figure it out, do not be lazy - everything will be on your shoulder)
You can also try edius, probably - just poke a wand, suddenly you like it?
I really like Corel VideoStudio X2. X3 came out, but I haven't tried it yet.
as an alternative in some situations, you can consider the YouTube editor www.youtube.com/editor
