It's not so easy to upload your files to Heroku (assets: styles, scripts, pictures, including) - third-party services are used for this: Dropbox, S3 etc.

By the way, I also have the same problem. I am making a website. There is a profile avatar. I'm changing my avatar. The image is uploaded somewhere on heroku. But how to pull it out of there, or rather pull out the src of the picture - is not yet clear.
