RDS gateway failover/redundancy?
Hello dear experts!
There is a virtual server as part of the RDS deployment on windows server 2012r2 with the role of a remote desktop gateway, there are no more roles on it. The external IP is connected to this server and users get access to the RDS collection.
I needed to reserve the RD Gateway role. It is necessary to make 2 instances of the server, so that one, for example, is put into service, and the other is in operation.
Created another server with the gateway role and added it to the collection. I tried to organize fault tolerance through NLB, but it turned out that it is not very suitable. It is worth turning off the first gw, the server is not available from the Internet.
There are many articles on the Internet on the organization of the HA collection. Someone does through NLB, someone does through RoundRobin. The first option does not work, RR remains. But, if I understand correctly how RR works, for this you need to take another external IP from the provider and set up a DNS record for it from the domain registrar. By itself, I don’t want to take an extra IP, but I’ll never know how to do it without this. Can try through failover cluster? I am studying this topic now, but only an article about Hyper-V comes across.
Share your experience, colleagues, how did you solve such a problem?
