RAID1 on 2 SAS 146Gb 15k or RAID10 on 4 SATA 160G 7.2k
Hi all! The question is whether RAID10 on SATA 160G 7.2k will be able to approach RAID1 on 2 SAS 146Gb 15k in terms of speed and reliability with two options: software and hardware RAID. Almost the same volumes and relatively the same prices, but on SATA even with 4 disks it turns out cheaper ... Is there any reason to use them ... Scope of the web server!

Not enough data. The volume of the database, the ratio of the number of write and read requests (this is for data storage without cache), the amount of RAM ...
SATA is cheaper due to slightly lower speed (IOPS) and slightly lower reliability (disks will fly more often). The differences between software and hardware raids are already insignificant, and are noticeable only with very large volumes of requests.
Ultimately, when you start to evaluate these differences in relation to the final cost, they are often not worth it.
ps Now it's time to add solid state drives to the configuration of highly loaded systems, and do not forget about the cost of their periodic replacement.
pps if the volumes of the database completely fit into the RAM, then all the expensive bells and whistles can be thrown out and the storage placed in the RAM (of course, take care of the backup, if at all possible)
1GB base! this is a minuscule, have you definitely not forgotten about file storage, pictures, videos, etc.?
Without any questions - place it completely in a virtual machine, immediately set up replication to disk (I hope your database will allow it) otherwise, either periodic backups (unreliable) or finish projects a little before replication (90% of cases this is to add a couple of lines to the classes for working with the database , but then you need to write something in advance to restore it).
Hence, there are no high requirements for storage - SATA will probably be enough for you (it is not clear why we were talking about RAID10 - this is at least 4 disks, 2 of them are in the mirror, this scheme does not add speed, more precisely, the linear speed increases, but there is no IOPS)
