Question for iphone 3g owners: Is it worth updating iOS from version 3.1.3 to 4?

Is it possible to update the Iphone 3g firmware on the 4th IOS? If so, which one, will it slow down? I found a lot of dissatisfied reviews on the network from those who reflashed, supposedly the iphone began to slow down and freeze. Where can I see the list of changes in Iphone firmware?

The main change is the addition of multitasking.
It usually starts to slow down because the happy owners of a device with a fourth axis do not know that now applications do not close at the touch of a button, but are minimized and continue to work. Therefore, they usually run a hundred pieces and the poor device can not cope with the load.
And there are glitches in both the third and fourth axis, so don't bother :)
We updated the test iPhone 3Gs almost every time a new version of the axis came out - there are fewer glitches with each version. there were no brakes and freezes in normal mode.

At first I thought that this topic got out of the past. I would not upgrade to 4.2.1 if we are talking about the iPhone 3G. Instead of a dubious kind of improvement, there will be a huge brake size. iPhone 3G, just like a regular iPhone, is best left at 3.1.3. But 3Gs on 5.0 works well. The list of changes was given above: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_version_history
There will be no multitasking in the iPhone 3G with any version of the official firmware. It does not support this feature.

I see only 1 plus in the update - many programs from the appstore require firmware from 4.
Multitasking can be done using the background utility from cydia.
So I would think 1000 times before updating, because it will affect performance quite noticeably.

Definitely not, you won’t roll back, and the brakes will be cruel, tested on my own iPhone 3G, I had to give it to relatives :(

Hello.
Perhaps you are no longer interested, but I will try to suggest another way (MB will be useful to someone).
I upgraded for reasons: stability, app support, bug fixes for older iOS versions.
All the answers that sounded about the brakes are correct.
Well, there is a problem (brakes) - we will solve it))
Software overclocking: I'm not talking about that imaginary legend where you need to fix the file and your megahertz will take off and give performance.
Let's get rid of the excess in the system. All systems are originally written for a large circle, and have a lot of things. When services, daemons, processes, etc. which devour the resources of the phone, and we do not use them at all, it would be wise to get rid of them and make life easier for the system, thereby speeding up its work - getting rid of the brakes.
All available acceleration methods have already been collected in one list and it is described in great detail what needs to be done.
I hope someone will find the thread useful.

The iPhone 3G does not and will not have multitasking, it is only available for 3GS+ with iOS4+ firmware.
Subjectively, it is better not to upgrade to the 4th axis, since the weak 3G will slow down and you really want to change it to 4 (judging by myself).
Changejog can be viewed here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_version_history

To the comment above: what then, by double clicking on the "home" opens?
List of favorites on the phone. There is no bar there that will show the list of software. Because he does not have multitasking.

Better not update, the phone will slow down so that the only desire is to smash it against the wall. It is clear that many applications do not go to iOS 3, but it's better without them than without a phone at all.
