QEMU/KVM: 32-bit guest won't boot from VDI disk, what's the reason?

Hello KVM connoisseurs. I have a Windows XP 32 bit guest machine with an IDE drive running on VirtualBox.
There is a task to transfer it to KVM. But in the end it is not possible to boot from the VDI disk image, it says that it is not booted. I also converted the disk in 2 ways: through VBoxManager to RAW, then qemu-img to qcow2, and directly using qemu-img.

qemu-img convert -f vdi winxp.vdi -O qcow2 -o winxp.qcow2

But in any case, even with RAW, it refuses to load. In the Wirth machine, the processor chose qemu32, BIOS boot type, i440fx chipset, I use the GUI manager for startup and configuration.
What am I doing wrong?

@gbg

It would be nice to attach this disk to a working virtual machine (or mount it in Linux) and check if there are whole partitions and file systems on it.
