Proper design of web designs for freelance?

Hello!
Background
I am engaged in the development of website designs.
But the range of my customers is limited to my city and region.
I usually work in tandem with a typesetter, or I do typesetting myself if something is not complicated.
I want to go to a large freelance, but I ran into such a problem. Initially, I provide the customer with a sketch or a design close to completion, and then we make it up.
The design itself is usually limited to two or three pages. Further, everything is made up according to the example.
Although I have several years of experience in design development, my layouts do not shine with professionalism, the font size in the layout can be larger or smaller than what is then used in the layout, and similar things. Plus, the layout itself rarely displays any active effects, more often I make a text note about how and what will work. And then we make it up.
Essence of a question
Advise articles or books in which the process of development and delivery of design is best described.
That is, such things as setting up a project, creating a convenient project hierarchy for a layout designer, showing active site elements, advice on the number of layouts for different projects, and the like. That is, to submit complete design projects for further work by someone else's layout designer.
PS I work in Photoshop and Illustrator.
