Project manager or ???
Good day to you.
I decided to develop a portfolio site for myself.
In general, I can be called a project manager.
[ You can skip the next paragraph and go straight to the main question ]
I find a client, select developers (s), a designer for the project, and after the team has completed the work, I hand over the project to the customer. Well, I share the income between all participants. (whoever asked for the work as much as I pay, if I agreed with the customer for a good amount, then I honestly add money to the team). The customer and the team, so to speak, do not hear about each other. I tell the customer that I am a freelancer, a private trader (I rarely say that I am a developer and work in a team).
I am quite good at all things related to web development, design, etc. + a lot of subtleties, ranging from the correct kegel in fonts and usability to [there is always room for improvement and I do it all the time] Therefore, I manage projects quite well. I studied as a programmer at the university, but kicked the bullshit, so I know how everything works well, but I'm not a coder at all. (at the university and handed over everything, working as a project manager). Lately I've been designing. So, even I somehow went to the wrong place, I apologize for that, but the full picture may not push you to more useful answers))
So, I decided to make a portfolio site for myself, as it starts to replenish, and I’m somehow tired of throwing links and screenshots to customers and it doesn’t look like such a presentation + the site will help promote services in development and design, etc. + many more goodies. But the question arose, how should I call myself, more precisely, to whom should I refer? (the command I have is not permanent). We do a lot of things, since I also have people from TV advertising and photographers and developers and designers and party organizers (sorry, but if the customer wants to be confused, I will get them for him). So there are no restrictions here, but the main focus is web development, design, advertising, promotion.
Project Manager?- no one can contact, since many customers already write "I will only work with a private trader", and the studios already have them, so it's better to contact them right away. (although I take a fee, I'm still minimal, the last online store was made for 12,000 rubles) But the price will naturally rise, as we are still building up a portfolio. And for a site that I will never put in a portfolio, since the customer insisted that everything be as he said (a freak site) they paid very well.
Web Studio? - I would call myself that, it doesn’t matter that this is not a studio at all. (in the future, perhaps) But the client will still not know, and the quality would not say that it is worse + we are constantly developing. But some customers do not want to work with studios, because they need private traders.
Team or alliance of developers and designers (generally creative class) ? - tends to be more like this, but then again ... something is not right here.
What are your coolest deals?
I will never tell the customer that I am a link, not a performer, since the scheme works well, the team and the customer are satisfied.
But to whom do you attribute yourself so that after reading, the customer does not leave the site? Based on your feelings and experience, what do you think would be the best?
Seriously though, I've blown my brains out! It's always the hardest thing to do for yourself.

I would call myself an "internet project manager" and sell myself as a unit that has its own development team and is ready to find a team for the needs of the customer, from a company to freelance.
I will digress from the topic. If you remember from American films, realtors who advertise themselves are very common, that is, a company of one person. It seems to me that there is a similar situation here, you need to sell yourself and your owl name and your professionalism.
Why don't customers want to work with studios? Your point of view is interesting.
ps in this case, the most optimal is a full-cycle web developer (private trader) IMHO
I will never tell the customer that I am a link, not a performer, since the scheme works well, the team and the customer are satisfied.
well, write that you are a full cycle webmaster or something like that :)
You can also open your own web studio in parallel.
Although in fact you are not a project manager, but just an entrepreneur.
Yes, I agree with you, in fact this is the most appropriate. But there is a significant "But" - this is not focused on our mentality, but rather on the American one. Most do not even know that there is such a person as a "Project Manager", they just go either to the studio (if the budget allows), or to freelancers.
I may take a chance, try to unwind in such a representation of myself (but I'm afraid there will be no demand at all).
Here's what you get "some customers do not want to work with studios, because they need private traders." and then "I tell the customer that I am a freelancer."
Therefore:
1) the job is looking for freelancing, there are not many regular customers
2) the job is poorly looked for - there is nothing to load developers with full time, the team is unstable, the quality is occasional
3) the tool is dumping
4) mostly subcontracting
And the question is: how to promote it?
But no way. Not necessary. This is not good.
Way:
to find a good project for a good, albeit more expensive, developer of the specialization that is most in demand for you (Bitrix, yii or whatever you do)
work with a minimum margin but with maximum quality
find a second one, occupy a niche
earn recommendations on each project, see the magic of reputation,
raise rates
, and now having a permanent team capable of solving problems and being responsible for their work, you can say that, they say, that's how cool we are, with a portfolio and reviews of real clients
, and then no you don’t need to hide the developers about the “private trader”, but calmly develop the web for good money
, but how to set up a site there and name it is a third question and, by the way, an optional
artel, even a research institute, if only the projects take off
with best wishes
