Professions that use SQL?
I have been working in a bank for 4 years, working with databases (at the level of simple SELECT, INSERT, reading someone else's query, digging into SQL server management studio), excel for reporting, I can do macros a little, I am ready to improve my knowledge.
I want to work with databases, but I don't know where to go.
Please tell me (ideally with examples from life) where and how you can get there, what people do, what scope of work they have (except for very abstract descriptions of who an architect and database administrator are, I didn’t google anything)
What to learn - general theory or specific dialects? What other knowledge might I need?
Come with burning eyes anywhere or can I ask?
I would especially appreciate receiving answers from those who work in this area or are closely associated with it.
PS city - Moscow
PPS English - intermediate, I can read those. literature.

If only SQL, then this is a SQL developer. As already noted, there are few such vacancies. But not a little.
There are also database administrators - they are more likely to maintain and maintain a database than to work with content. But still.
SQL itself, one of the additional skills. Developers (knowledge is important for them), testers, analysts, project managers - for everyone, the ability to SQL will not be superfluous.
You - in the enterprise.
1. Business analyst.
If English is at a conversational level, then this is for you.
The scope of work is to communicate with the customer at a business level, to convey to the developers what exactly the customer wants to see. There are many enterprise projects, including the actual development of software for the same banks, where business analysts are needed, who will understand what exactly should happen with the data, and explain this to developers, helping to draw up the terms of reference.
2. Database developer.
Monitoring the state of databases, updating, rolling. To test various innovations, you need to update the application and prepare data for it. To make the data match the desired version of the application, so that the data matches the standard test data - there is a lot of work. Especially in a large project, where several dozen test environments are allocated for testing. Ideally, try to automate all this, but in an enterprise it happens that it is impossible.
Usually SLQ queries are handled by backend developers. At the same time, RAW SQL is just a small part of the duties of a backend developer.
Knowledge of SQL comes along with other knowledge, there are rarely separate vacancies for SQL specialists. Here, a request for hh.ru - according to vacancies, it is clear that the ability to make SQL queries is not the main requirement for a specialist.
start with
, look at graph and vertical databases,
and what is not there, with PL / SQL is a separate world, then choose a specialization
In the same banking sector, there is a great demand for developers of CFT programs.
True, Oracle databases are mainly used there.
A list of vacancies with knowledge of SQL - every day I receive an aggregator with HH - more than 700 in Moscow.
And these can be positions from sales managers to architects of complex software.
And the level of knowledge required is different.
In my example, I will say this.
I had a similar experience and worked as a data analyst in a bank.
Then they reduced it.
I went to interviews for a technical support engineer, a database developer, a business analyst, a tester.
For a developer, the level is rather weak.
I didn’t go to those places for analytics and technical support.
I have been a tester for over a year.
Here the level of SQL knowledge required depends on the project and development.
It would also be good to know and be able to deploy and migrate a database, read errors, track and optimize query execution time, etc. etc.
