Please explain the difference between VPN and PROXY. Isn't it the same thing?

And VPN and PROXY can be used for the same purposes?
What is the difference?

@ru6ak

The difference is that a proxy is: A proxy server (from the English proxy - “representative”, “authorized”), an intermediary server is an intermediate server (a set of programs) in computer networks that acts as an intermediary between the user and the target server
A VPN VPN (Eng. Virtual Private Network "virtual private network") - a generalized name for technologies that allow you to provide one or more network connections (logical network) over another network (for example, the Internet).

I'll try and explain on my fingers.
proxy:
you send a request, for example, to open a page. the proxy server returns the result to you, pretends to be you for this page, and can also control access to certain pages, who is supposed to, who is not.
VPN:
this is the same local network within another network, only not physical, but virtual. usually protected. used to combine physically distant objects, such as routers, offices, and so on. thus it seems to users that they are in the same local network with a remote representation, for example. as if they were sitting in neighboring offices.
