The avinfo utility: shounen.ru/soft/avinfo/download.shtml
There is nothing on the laptop to build, and it's a pity to install traffic (it's paid and expensive). And, to be honest, there is no experience in Linux assembly. :) There's still a patch to be applied, if anyone takes it.

Ubuntu 10.04 if relevant.

Avinfo is in the Ubuntu repository, you do not need to build it
If anything:
sudo apt-get install avinfo
