PhpStorm or IntelliJ IDEA+PHP Editor?

Good afternoon.
I read this wonderful post today and decided to try JetBrains products after all.
I used to use Eclpise for Java, Dreamweaver or Notepad++ for php.

IDEA that in any case I am going to take. But the question is, is it worth taking PhpStorm or is PHP Editor enough for IDEA?

Yes, I've seen similar questions discussed here before. But I would like to hear for / against from those who have worked with both products for a long time.

I haven't been using PHPStorm for a long time, about 1 month. Previously used Komodo IDE 6.
For PHPStorm I give 10 out of 10, as it really is an IDE that is great for web programming.
Pros:

  • Excellent tips for classes, methods, namespaces, including highlighting incorrect names, arguments.
  • Saving files on the local computer.
  • Using version control directly in the project.
  • Definition of frameworks, KMS (architecture addition).
  • Code refactoring
  • Excellent distribution of libraries, for example: PHPUnit
  • And much more...

Minuses:
  • You can't just grab and open a file from a remote server. You need to download the entire project. (it is likely that such a function exists, I just did not find it)
  • Gluttonous: 4 GB of RAM, sometimes freezes on Mac OS (little noticeable, but sometimes annoying)

From myself: I’ve been working on the web for 4 years now, I’ve never met PHPStorm better when it comes to web programming (PHP)

Something tells me that PHPStorm is IntelliJ IDEA without a plugin for Java and with a built-in PHP Editor plugin -))
If you have IntelliJ IDEA, then with this plugin you have a full-fledged PHPStorm

Download the trial version for a month and see what the difference is for yourself (because it's all pretty subjective). If you don't like it, no one will force you to buy it =)

All JB IDEs are custom IDEAs. The functionality is almost the same. But php / py / rb versions will be easier, there will be no java bindings and plugins, there will be additional things for greater convenience specifically for your language.
If you don't need java for professional development - take PHPStorm. What's more, it's cheaper.
If you are interested in java for home research, the free version is likely to suffice.

Idea will be heavier. For a heap of everything for Java. If you only work with php/js/sql/html then phpstorm is better.

Today there was already a similar question: PHPStorm, as a means to increase efficiency?

Custom IDEs update faster than plugins due to the fact that they can afford to use the latest versions of the platform. that's the difference
