phpmyadmin not starting in xampp?

Good evening.
Installed XAMPP on Ubuntu 14.04. Began to check the installation. And having problems running phpmyadmin. I go to the phpmyadmin link from the XAMPP main page in localhost and it gives me errors like this:

#2002 - No such file or directory - The server is not responding (or the local server's socket is not correctly configured).
mysqli_real_connect(): (HY000/2002): No such file or directory
Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.
mysqli_real_connect(): (HY000/2002): No such file or directory
What could be the problem?
