Monitors
link00, 2015-10-24 13:02:52

PHP, server-side, web-dev. What is better two monitors or one big 27 inches?

I welcome everyone! In general, it became small and cramped in the open spaces of a 21.5-inch monitor. I decided to take more, but I'm torn into two parts - either take the second 24 "(and leave 21.5 as well and there will be two). Or take one large 27". It's hard to say something without working for them... Can anyone tell from their own experience? What do you think is better? thanks in advance.

Will count from the person. To make it more convenient, it’s better to have two monitors of the same size (well, or at least with the same screen resolution). But this is if we are talking about a horizontal arrangement.
I just connect a 24-inch monitor to my 13" firmware, located a little higher, and this is more convenient for me than 2 side-by-side 24" monitors (with virtual desktops, most of the time you will look at only one monitor.
27 "I have not tried the monitor for work yet, at work there are a couple of such ones just to display server load graphs + alerts.

In my opinion, switching to 1 large monitor (16:9 or 16:10) does not really solve the problem if it has a resolution of 1920*1080 (1200).
I have this one at home: https://market.yandex.ru/product/10634270?hid=9105...
When I switched from 19 "(1440*900) it seemed cool. Now I understand that for my tasks (a lot of layout) there is not enough space, you need at least one more screen so as not to switch from the browser to the IDE. And it would be nice to have one more screen for photoshop... In general, there are not many screens.
For the back-end, the requirements may be more modest, but still PhpStorm at 1920px wants to expand to full screen, there is just nothing to fit: joxi.ru/a2XOdn5HR4VWmg
It would be nice to open the same documentation on the second monitor.
An interesting alternative to 2 screens are 21:9 monitors. I can only judge by what I read / watched, I didn’t feel it live.
Here is the first thing I found: habrahabr.ru/company/LG_Russia/blog/216877 , there are a lot of reviews on YouTube.
In fact, we have a space of 2 monitors, but without a joint in the middle.
Well, now there are 4K monitors, but I haven’t really read about them yet.

It depends on what you want to place on the first, what on the second.
A bunch of friends have 2, most often with randomly open windows, which is on the first, which is on the second.
I personally have enough of one due to virtual desktops:

|----------------|-------------------|--------|
| PhpStorm | общего назначения | Chrome |
|----------------|-------------------|--------|
| Gnome Terminal | общего назначения | Skype |
|----------------|-------------------|--------|

In this approach, it is convenient that I always know where the window of the program that I currently need is, and for switching - hotkeys.

Plus for two monitors. If you often have to switch between two applications that occupy more than 80% of the monitor, then there’s nothing to even think about. Instead of running around with your eyes, like on a football field, on one large monitor, it is more convenient to have your own monitor for each application.
But there are some nuances here:
1) not all (almost, but not all) applications work correctly with multi-monitors
2) two monitors take up more space on the table than 1 large one (plus such trifles as more wires and video card support - what if)
From the pros - if one monitor burns out, then you can always "turn over" on the second for a couple of days :)

Very individual. I have mixed tasks - mostly business and backend, as well as server administration, frontend and design. Now I have one wide monitor 24 ". I tried it with 2 - it's not that. I can't. It's inconvenient, even crack. Soon I will change the usual computer to a macbook pro, I will take either 27" for it, or from these new 21: 9. Many layout designers use 2 monitors and are satisfied. It's not the same for everybody.
