PHP operating modes?

Confused about PHP's modes of operation.
What are the benefits and why use them?
FastCGI, CGI and Apache module.
Let's say a simple site is being made on a CMS, no matter which Joomla or Wordpress.
Or let's say a simple landing page for 1 php file with styles and scripts.
Does it matter in what mode it will work?

The Apache module will be faster. For safety, it's better to use mpm-itk or ruid2
