Own script a la Gravatar

Actually, I'm interested in a system similar to Gravatar, but allowing users to upload their avatars for a specific resource and store them there. Gravatar RPC does not allow registering and uploading an avatar for a user. But I don’t want to force the user to go to a third-party service and register, managing avatars there. Those who have a gravatar can continue to use it, new users want to provide a similar service themselves within the same site. At the same time, so that the client code does not change, so does the hash and all other settings.

Is there such a thing or do you have to write it yourself?
