An indiscreet question, you bought support from Orakla? Or do you have Oracle XE? If there is purchased support, you definitely do not need to do this. You will be sent to the support for any appeal, you will dig into the articles on the metalink yourself. Even if you have XE (or illegally decided to use SE / EE) it is better to adhere to the requirements recommended by the vendor.
So I put Oracle on Ubuntu, Debian and it worked, with some minor squats. But it's not for production.
