Options for setting up a virtual server on ESXi 5.5!?

Good day gentlemen. A question of this kind .. I'm going to raise a virtual server on ESXi 5.5, server 2012 Standart, on which 1C (Sql 2012 standart) will be running. There is plenty of RAM, there are concerns only about the speed of the hard disk. ESXi runs on the 10th hardware raid.
Perhaps there are options for fine-tuning the virtual machine for its maximum performance ..
I would be very grateful if you share your experience ...
