On what to build a system of archival copying?
The authorities puzzled with the question, it is necessary to organize a data storage system from 3 full-HD cameras for 5 years, approximately 3tb of data per month or 30-40tb per year. How to organize with the help of hard drives in principle it is clear whether it is worth digging towards tapes? I have never dealt with them, I don’t even know where to start and whether it’s worth digging there in principle.

The tapes are good for their reliability, put them in a fireproof safe and keep as long as you need. Most likely there will be no problems with reading tapes even after a considerable time, LTO is backwards compatible.
LTO-8 promises to store raw 12TB, which is cool in principle and fits the task.
I had only LTO-2 in my hands in conjunction with symantec backup exec, the backup volumes were not very large, everything fit with compression on one cassette. In principle, the decision has the right to life. More hassle with hdd.
Not a very good solution if you need quick access to the records archive.
So I would think in the direction of x TB we store on hdd, we write older records on cassettes.
For a more complete understanding of the mechanism of working with streamers, I recommend looking at YouTube records of Max Kryukov, he described the principles of work in some detail.
