On what OS to raise a file server?

Hello! I'm interested in the question, there are 2 servers, like Supermicro, running windows. We set the task of making a file server. Question: How would it be wiser to do it? Raise ftp on Windows so that the whole structure is on one OS? Or do it on Linux?
Separately, I’ll say that I’m new to Linux, I have basic knowledge, so I wanted to work with Linux. But I want to make a competent structure. Advise if it’s problematic if done on Linux? The company is not big, up to 60 people. Thanks in advance.

And I would advise * nix + samba (+ ban on deleting files (they will just be moved to another folder)) As I understand it, users at work sit on windows. It will be easier for them to work with connected shared folders than with ftp. If in the domain - not to run - vbs script. For me, the agent of Kaspersky xDD does this in general.
P.S.
Somehow the dude received a letter with a link like to the archive. Debilka followed the link. The cipher took it. Okay, all the important docks were stored on network drives. CRYFRO worked fine: it found all documents, encrypted and deleted the originals even on network drives (about 60 GB). but the fact that there was a ban on deletion and just a stupid transfer to another folder during deletion saved it, it remained to find the remains of the CRYFRO (deletes itself), delete all files with the CRYFRO extension and transfer the original documents from the hidden folder.
Backup copies were (lagged behind by 1 day), just doing it was faster + up-to-date data.
Casper was finally FSUs xD.

The English have a saying: "Give a dog a bad name, after which you can hang it."
You can raise servers on Windows ... then hang them up. ;-)

I recommend linux + proftpd. Bkdet safer, and more stable.

ftp?
Return to the cryochamber!
If you have the entire network on Microsoft™ Windows™, then it is more logical for you to use CIFS, regardless of what you use to set up the file cleaner.
