On what OS is it more practical to lift in Squid?
Dear experts!
A task stuck in my throat that surpasses my current knowledge.
We have: a physical server with vigorous iron. On this server, 3 virtual machines are raised, united in a virtual LAN without outside access. Actually, this is a Windows terminal server and some other nonsense. On the physical server, a VPN server was also raised in order to access the virtual machines from the outside, respectively.
You need to open a terminal server on one of the virtual machines to access the network, but you don’t want to give users the freedom to rummage around the network.
Task: to raise another virtual machine in the virtual local area network, on which only Squid or pfSense will spin.
The question is: what OS to choose for this, so to speak, a proxy server / gateway, so that my brains minimally take part in sex with the settings and maintenance of this economy?
Thanks in advance to everyone who gives advice!

The one in which you know how to work and in which you have no questions: how to make "something" to work or how to fix a mistake. After all, you must admit that it would be stupid to raise a squid on RedHat if you don't know how it works?
The global answer is the one you know best. I don't know which axis you know better, but do you know which axis you know better?
pfSense is a fryaha with a web muzzle, and there is a squid there.
