Objective-C. How to pass data between two views?

In the application on iOS, roughly speaking, there are 2 view screens: the game settings and the game itself.
The transition method between views is Modal. How to pass data between these views? Or where can I read about it?

Roughly speaking, in the first representation you take value which needs to be transferred.
You check that the second view exists and
send a message to the second view with the desired value from the first
