Numbers from digits go number from digits?

I apologize for such a stupid question, but is it correct to use the expression "a number consists of numbers" in Russian, or is it more correct to use "numbers consist of numbers". I strongly ask you to provide me with any proofs if the first expression is correct. A matter of life and death.

Formally, it is not a number that consists of numbers, but a record of a number, its visual representation. The number itself is a kind of abstraction, which can also be represented graphically on a scale or with a special notation (e, π).
