non-mainstream linux distribution

I would like to try a distribution kit not from this list. Maybe someone yuzal something interesting. It is desirable that the project is not in a dilapidated state or completely disheartened.

What is the selection criterion? There just also there are actively developing projects. In general, there is Gentoo, and I also really liked Chakra, but it is only with KDE.

1. Compile your Linux kernel
2.!!!
3. PROFIT!
You won't get hard roots, dilapidated, dim and not mainstream.

Try Pardus.
But to be honest, it is not very clear what is meant by the word "interesting". They don't differ that much. I would even say, in my noobish opinion, not much at all.

Puppy/PuppyRus. A great lightweight distribution, positioned as a distribution for weak PCs or a "rescue" one (a friend sat on it for a month when the hard drive died).

Is linux necessary? You can have a good time, try ReactOS or Haiku and add feedback to the developers of these systems)
