No sound devices installed (Acer TravelMate 6292) - how to solve?

Acer TravelMate 6292 laptop under Windows 7.
There is a cross on the speaker icon in the tray and a tooltip "Output audio device is not installed", in the device manager there is a device with High Definition Audio support (the driver tried to update it - reports that the most current one is), but in the Sound section in the Control Panel it is reported that "No sound devices are installed" (in the Playback and Recording tabs).

Is the problem with the sound card or something else? Those. I want to understand: is the sound piece of iron dead or is it somehow possible to solve it in the settings?
