No signal on monitor through displayport?

I bought myself an AOC c24g1 monitor, I decided to connect it to my gaming laptop. The monitor is 144Hz, so I decided to connect it via displayport, but the laptop has only MINI DISPLAYPORT, I had to buy a cord from a regular connector to a mini one. After connecting, it says: no signal. When connected via hdmi, everything works, but 60Hz (in the monitor, the hdmi version is 1.4). I read that this is a common problem, but did not understand what to do. Help me please!

Does the laptop see the monitor? at least try with another cord, version 1.2 of the cord is needed
