Network access via VPN?

Hello!
There was a task to lift the VPN server on linux for access of clients from outside. Now, in fact, everything is up and running on pptpd. But as I understand it, this protocol is slowly dying out and there has been no support on poppies for a long time. And I would like to start up both windows and MacOS on the network.
Thoughts 2, while in theory: openvpn but here you need to install software for everyone. And maybe there is an opportunity on l2tp, on a poppy it seems like out of the box there is support like on Windows. But I don't seem to need l2 support :)...
Tell me which way to dig?

I strongly recommend using openvpn. There are a lot of clients under Windows, even with GUI. Under OSX - thunnelblick. There are a huge number of pluses, ranging from route forwarding to authorization, not to mention the various modes of operation of both the server and the client.
Yes, the only negative is that the client is not out of the box.
