Need REST in Python advice?

I'm new to this subject, which is why I'm asking. I was given to work on a Rest api site in php. They said to tie it to the site (it is static). Just for learning, I want to raise it to python + flask
Question: is it possible to combine python + php in this way (it seems to be independent of each other, but still wouldn't it be a stupid step)?
