I won’t say that I know English very, very well, but what helped me was an incentive, I decided to read Watchmen in the original and it gave me a real boost in learning the language, I just read it with a dictionary, searched the Internet for an explanation of idioms and this gave a challenge and fueled my interest. then made several subscriptions to foreign strips. at first it’s hard, but gradually I expand my vocabulary and it seems to be easier. that is, I'm not saying that you do the same, but that you find something interesting that will make you learn the language. yes, and also, I heard that listening to foreign music, even without understanding its meaning, makes it easier to learn the language, I partly agree with this, it helped me get rid of the "fear" of English.

Watch movies, series and cartoons that interest you in English. Like The Big Bang Theory, Futurama, etc.

And you surround yourself with English. Install Windu, programs, firmware on the phone without translation. Visit foreign news sites, foreign forums and diaries. Books, of course, series. And for every incomprehensible fart - in dictionaries and rules.

Skype seems to have forums where native speakers can find each other. my friend was somehow puzzled by the idea of becoming a Hollywood actor and after a year of studying the language he spoke chic, even the accent he needed appeared

Personally, the first time I got ahead in English was in school when I was into magic tricks, and I got a big book about magic tricks in English. There was nowhere to go, sat with a dictionary and translated. The second big step was taken with Bonk's textbook, a good textbook, albeit a bit old. He also sat and studied every evening. In addition, I will note the book “English for Ours” and films in English - but it would be good to select them, and, it seems to me, to review them more often. And quite by accident I read a very sensible advice - do not believe it - from the newspaper "Soviet Russia", regarding the articulation position, as a result, an American, with whom I took courses for a year, said that I have the best pronunciation of all that he heard :) Advice quite common, but nevertheless - in Russian, sounds are formed mainly in the front of the mouth, and in English - in the middle. Even if you know the language well and diligently pronounce all sorts of r, th, etc., but your articulation position is Russian, you will have a characteristic and easily recognizable Russian accent.

Now he himself faced such a problem, English is needed. The current level of knowledge is Canine (I understand everything, I can’t say). In general, I climbed and looked at courses, etc. etc. The ratio "price - time - quality" is important and ... I settled on the only right decision for me - courses abroad.
Why so:
1. Any local courses and teachers, poked some notebook disks, etc., not even trying to understand what I need. the deadlines for such courses generally kill - "In TWO years you will speak fluently." My dears, in TWO years I want to speak two or three additional languages. Those. item TIME failed. The price for two years will also be far beyond 4-5k green money. Those. item PRICE indicative — normal.
2. Watching movies and other audio-video-text dregs. I watch them freely anyway and understand 75-80% of what I don’t understand, I guess about it. The time spent on this will exceed the required time. Item TIME failed. The price is super, it is equal to 0.
If you study somewhere:
Is the price expensive? The same 4-5 thousand green money is enough for 2-3 months;
Time - being surrounded, when you can’t buy bread, you want it, you don’t want it, but you will talk. The main thing is to go on your own, without anyone, and be guided by the fact that there are no Russian speakers nearby, because laziness will exceed;
Quality is determined by your capabilities and abilities. This is not downloading a program into the brain, this is work on oneself.
Additional goodies: meeting new people, new culture, new needs, breaking the "Soviet" stereotypes and the current reality of everyday life.
In principle, this is the option that I chose to implement in January-February 2011. Yes, and I'm going to go most likely to New Zealand.

I downloaded the AJ Hoge course - Effortless English on the rutracker, listened to everything. For me personally, it was like a jetpack attached to my part of the brain responsible for the English language. Now I am studying Czech using the same technique. By the way, he also has a YouTube channel. After a couple of years, I sent him money for a course that I first stumbled upon on torrents, and only then went to his website.
