GPS
As far as I know, indoor GPS has not progressed beyond patenting the idea of GPS repeaters . However, some people promise that SiRFstar V with SiRFusion technology will work indoors by the end of 2012. But such promises have been heard for a couple of years, and there is still no working chip ...
Wi-Fi
When it comes to Wi-Fi, there are many options:
Ekahau is perhaps the most famous commercial Wi-Fi system.
awiloc - from the Fraunhofer Institute.
WalkBase
NavIndoors
Place Lab (Wi-Fi + GPS + GSM) is a rather old (2005) prototype from Intel, open source.
Please note that to get any decent Wi-Fi accuracy, the system will need to be calibrated periodically, because. signal strength fluctuates over time, and positioning accuracy decreases.
Others :
Ubisense - accurate up to 15 cm, but not Wi-Fi (requires additional hardware) and costs about 10-20 thousand euros. If money is not an issue, this is the best option in my opinion.
There are also GloPos , which, based on GSM data, promise an accuracy better than 12.5 m. But the "independent tests" they refer to do not really confirm this.
Positioning systems based on FM radio do not require infrastructure, receivers are already in a bunch of mobile devices - but commercial FM systems have not yet matured ...
It seems they wrote here about the last SurfStar, I don’t remember what number, there will be support for this whole thing, try to dig in that direction.
