Native apps or cross-platform games (Java or Unity)?

Interested in mobile development while a student. There was a question of choice - either move towards mobile applications with a native interface (android + java, then maybe iOS), test applications then gain freelance experience, or cross-platform game development on Unity (iOS + Android) and try to break into the markets. I know a little Java, but switching to C# is not something that would be a problem. Interface design doesn’t scare me, although I’m not going to leave programming, since it can be combined in mobile development. Game development seems to me a more ungrateful direction, a low chance of game success with high time and material costs for development and promotion.
Interested in how things are on the market, what is more in demand and what, in your opinion, is more promising to choose. Thank you.

It’s better not to start in game dev now. Now casual makers are a dime a dozen. Mobile stores are full of low-quality clones of low-quality clones (thanks to the unit for this), casual on PS died 3-4 years ago, "adult" gamedev in Russia has not grown to a sane level.
In order to be guaranteed to get a plus on games for mobile phones, finances are needed. Usually they release several games at once, pay for traffic. And one or two out of ten (conditionally) shoot and cover all costs plus make a profit.
For information, you need to spend 5-10 kilo$ on traffic in the epstore. But this is just progress. Art also costs money, but no art - no game.
Most of the gaming cantors in this country work with Unity. Therefore, with the knowledge of the unit, it will be possible to work for doshirak. Only you will need to stand in line) because. a lot of hungry students.
In general, if you don’t have a mega idea for creating a game that will turn the industry around, forget about game development. But if there is an idea, then it is better to sell it profitably. The purchase is carried out at a price of 10 cents per dozen. Do not miss your chance.
