MySQL, how to backup large databases?

Actually the question is, there is a rather small base, about a terabyte.
At the moment, almost all myisam tables are likely to be transferred to innodb in the near future.
The question is, how do you backup large databases?

on the slave
1. table lock
2. snapshot
3. unlock
4. mount backup
(if zfs, you can immediately transfer incremental snapshots)

I offay sql and copy the sql folder to a separate disk
