Monitoring a Single Debian Server
There was a task to monitor a separate virtualka with a debian. Preferably with SMS notifications. We tried to use newrelic, but it never showed us the fallen base and it costs incomparably expensive per month. We thought about using bijk.com, but its agent has some strange dependencies and we had doubts about the ability to monitor custom metrics.
What do you advise?

In monit-it.com, they seem to promise to finish most of your requirements for NG.
mmonit.com/monit/ free single daemon, quite flexible. I use in a situation with 1 server. The paid part - different buns are added there, such as a beautiful web interface, applications for iPhone, etc. But the free one suits me.
If you monitor mysql open on the network (which is sad) or via ssh (access !!!) ...
why not write a simple PHP script to check the connection to the database and throw it to the same service with checking for this script
Searching for a solution like "Saas Monitoring"
PS newrelic is unknown for what reason did not raise a panic? Trigger created?
host-tracker.com
as for checking the operation of the database - check the URL that gives some data from the database - if the database falls, then you will not receive the desired line in the response and therefore an alarm because the sql server is frozen
