Modern Russian navigator - how do you see it?
Hello Khabravchane.
In the light of the comments to the review of our device NT-1813 ( habrahabr.ru/company/7days/blog/103909 ) we would like to ask you, what Device do you need? We ask you to refrain from comments like “But they remembered about users”, “Russian manufacturers in ....” and the like. Simple and dry - what characteristics and at what price would you buy an autonavigator in a year?
Our list turned out to be something like this:
- Android OS
- GPS / GLONASS (it will not work without a second Russian device)
- WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE, GSM, A-GPS
- Display 5 ”, touch, TFT (from 480x800).
— FM transmitter
— Voice control of menu items
— Processor 1GHz
— DVB-T
- Battery from 2000 mAh
- Connectors MiniUsb, MicroSD
Price for the basic version (without TV, voice control, WiFi) - $250
Price for "full stuffing" - $450
It will be interesting to hear opinions!

UPD: While this is a study of opinions, the questions do NOT relate to the modernization of 1813

The list is not bad, but I just have a question: what will it look like? The question, meanwhile, is by no means an idle one, because you won’t want to buy what we saw even if there, well, I don’t know ... there will be an amusement park with all that comes with it.
Quite clearly, even without additional research, at least 4 target categories can be distinguished, which have different requirements for such devices:
1. Car navigation
2. Conventional tourism
3. Bicycle tourism
4. Water tourism
Users of each of these categories have their own requirements for navigation devices. Moreover, these requirements are so different that it is almost impossible to release a “device convenient for everyone”. It would make sense if you could prepare different navigators for different Target Audiences. "Transmitters-figitters", "Sensors-mensors" - this is all secondary. Conduct a competitive analysis to understand around which target audience the market is most favorable. Having decided on the choice of target audience, collect information on how exactly this target audience uses such devices most often. And after that, I assure you, such questions will not even arise. For an ordinary tourist on a hike needs a touchscreen - like a crystal chamber pot, and a large screen - like a reproduction of Aivazovsky. And the motorist does not need a waterproof case at all, along with a 2000 mAh battery. By the way, after a competitive analysis, the price will be determined by itself ...
For me, the main thing is to have excellent software that:
— always shows the current state of traffic jams;
- Calculate the really fastest route, taking into account traffic jams;
— had a convenient and complete database of objects linked to the map: gas stations, car washes, cafes, clinics, shops, McDonald's, etc.;
- so that it all works great in Moscow and the Moscow region, and works well in the European part of Russia and in Europe.
Well, so that the price of the device was up to 10,000 rubles.
1. Android and any other free OS. There is no desire to overpay for a Win CE
2 license. Pre-installed navigator software, as well as the ability to install third-party software for navigation. Make some kind of hardware platform that would be convenient and beneficial for developers of third-party firmware.
3. If we are talking about embedded software, then let there be a normal interface, is it really impossible to draw a beautiful menu? This is not a 2010 navigator menu, this is a cozy 1999 hompage: Work out
two types of menus - night and day, and let them change depending on the time of day, remove the background image, and come up with clear, intelligible names for menu items, abbreviations - a relic of the scoop.
4. A large battery for the car version is not needed at all in my opinion. A convenient flexible power cord to a car socket is much cheaper and more practical.
5. Appearance. I don't know about others, but for me it plays a very important role. I will never buy a piece of dull dark gray cheap plastic. Make a rubberized surface, clear edges of the case, and you will be happy.
6. I do not need a combine with the ability to read e-books, watch movies and TV. I need a NAVIGATOR that will accurately determine my coordinates, plot a route and work stably. Everything else is rubbish and dirt from under the nails, for which I have no desire to overpay.
There will be something else, I will definitely write.
I apologize in advance for the harsh tone =)
You understand, if questions about the content are asked, the design is still far away. And then it’s not difficult to draw a beautiful box (by the way, the HT-1813 looked pretty attractive on the monitor), but then how to embed the above into it? :)
But it will definitely look better. We clearly see our mistakes, we will work on them. So we will have our own amusement park with blackjack and ... other components according to Bender)))
In addition, I would like to:
1) input for 2 cameras rear and front
2) I would like it to be able to continuously record video from the built-in video cameras, as a black box, in case of debriefing in case of an accident.
3) so that it has a shock sensor, which would activate the recording, in case of an accident in the parking lot, and the same thing, when a standard alarm is triggered. Maybe even, for example, immediately after that, transfer this video or a couple of screenshots from it to an email somewhere.
4) so that when wi-fi is connected, he could automatically merge my tracks to map developers, for their more efficient clarification. And the country is large, it is not easy to maintain relevance. Of course, without sending personal data or asking my permission. Although the ability to automatically save your tracks on a third-party resource is always very good. And already there, for example, allow them to be shared and used for cartography.
Knowing the main problem of Russian manufacturers, I would first of all think about the appearance of the gadget and the system interface. And then again it will turn out "Electronics-1"
with regards to software ... personally, I always miss the "going to the intersection of streets A and B."
I am a happy owner of an android smartphone with a built-in GPS receiver. I tried several free and paid programs for navigation (mainly in Finland). In general, I'm still pleased with its form factor and navigation features. And especially mobility and 3G access.
Once I compared it with a specialized car navigator, and only a little bit of shortcomings were revealed! The most basic — no fasteners to the windshield. Secondly, the brightness is not enough - in the bright sun, the car showed better. Other shortcomings somehow do not come to mind anymore. The sensitivity of GPS is in no way inferior to the car! I had a USB converter from the cigarette lighter from another device, so there were no problems with power either.
But the advantages outweighed the disadvantages many times over. It's like I already mentioned and 3G access, and any navigation software is just fly away. In particular, Google maps performed very well compared to commercial software and standalone navigator. A-GPS showed its best side. Again, the android has a built-in NetworkLocation, which allows you to find the approximate location before the satellites are picked up - by the surrounding base stations. Even alone, he often worked quite tolerably! Map updates have been downloaded directly from the web and moved to the correct directory. Uploaded Putin's voice for navigation, had fun all the way under the orders of our helmsman). Situations when one program works badly, and the other works well - really have a place to be! So the ability to install multiple software is a good plus.
But the quality of OpenStreetMaps, unfortunately, has not yet reached an acceptable level for navigation, but I see a great future for open maps. I will follow him further.
Another cool thing about a smartphone with GPS, compared to a specialized car receiver, is its versatility. Yes, of course, I certainly wouldn’t take it for rafting on the river, but I’ve never had to raft in my life, but I ride a bike almost every day. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any really cool programs for tracking my sports needs yet, maybe I need to go through the market better, however, among those that I found there are those that allow you to collect statistics on trips / runs and swims and then enjoy progress or cry over regression.
So at the moment, a multifunctional smartphone fully covers my navigation needs and there is no need to buy a separate device for these purposes. However, if God forbid I lose my favorite device, then here's what I would like to see in another that I would buy:
- First of all, since the device has such wonderful characteristics as described above, then it simply must be a smartphone! Those. the function of the phone (dialer) / SMS and everything else must be present.
- Secondly, the kit should include a mount with a car glass (probably not expensive) and a power converter from the cigarette lighter to USB
- Thirdly, if there is an option to attach the device to a bicycle - i.e. mount (a kind of non-removable cradle into which the device is conveniently inserted), and perhaps a magnetic sensor like existing bicycle speedometers, or, well, a real dynamo for recharge - then I would really buy it.
- Attaching to the car's audio system does not interest me at all. Let him squeak into his speaker - I don't care. And in general, for a bike it is better to make the headset longer or more wireless;)
— SOFT, SOFT and SOFT again! The most important thing now is, of course, the software functions, since the hardware stuffing is approximately the same for everyone. Androyd with software has very much nothing, and in the future it will only have to improve. There are free navigation programs, the quality of which has not yet satisfied me, but I am sure that it will reach an acceptable level in the very near future.
- The second option: it would also be interesting to get a specialized device for athletes.
A device made in the form factor of a watch, which, in addition to showing the time, can also track the location, speed, Heart rate (it's easy to organize in a watch!), There is also an accelerometer, and a bunch of other sensors to shove. Bluetooth is sufficient for connection. If there is not even an internal memory there, then you can transfer all the parameters to a smartphone using the blue-tooth, and accordingly there should be a special one on it. program.
