Minimize and pin Windows 8 windows?
I need a program for Windows 8 that allows you to minimize application windows to the system bar (next to the clock) instead of the Taskbar. It also makes it possible to dock a window on top of others.
On Windows 7, this problem was solved by the RBTray program. On the current version, it does not dock windows.

Here is the solution:
Actual Window Manager
+ really works under win8.1
+ has almost no glitches* of alternative solutions, in particular, it correctly handles all windows (including customized\"sanded" ones like MSO\Firefox)
+ fine-tuning everything and everything (shortcuts, clicks on standard window buttons\window title with and without modifiers, additional buttons, etc.), incl. for individual programs
+ a bunch of functions, including virtual desktops and, in fact, the functionality of the notorious ultramon (working with multiple monitors)
+ a lot of nice little things, for example, using SCM on the window title opens a dialog in which, among other things, you can set CPU Affinity for this process - not needed often, but nice to have)
If you want to try, there is a rutracker.
* of the observed glitches:
- [technically, not a glitch] Setting up profiles for windows of MS Office programs will not work with office 2013, because. window titles have changed. It is solved by editing, for example, for Excel, Window Caption needs to be changed from "Microsoft Excel" to "Excel"
- in Excel, and, I suspect, in other office programs, when setting the horizontal offset of the window title additional buttons, they disappear until it is reset (which , by and large, uncritically)
- not all "sanded" windows can call functions by RMB\click with a modifier on the "native" minimize/close buttons. They work in MS Office, they work in Firefox, they don’t work in Maxton, but there’s nothing to be done, for this you can register “additional” buttons in the window title for all windows, or only for those where they are needed, or use the keyboard shortcuts
===========DEPRECATED============== I
found www.hotkeymaster.com/download.html Install
, go to settings, then:
- create an action button NEW...
- Hotkey Name: call it whatever you want, for example, mintray
- in the Add Commands list: select Window
- click the Add Command button below
- Set Target Window: click ...,
- select the
radiobutton
Minimize
Window to Tray, OK
- Add Activator: Hotkey, fill in the shortcut (I have Alt+1, for example)
- OK
- fixing the window on top of others is configured in the same way but it would be great, for example, by right-clicking on the minimize button in the window title
- it only works in its context (at least for me), i.e., for example, launched as a user will not minimize programs that I launched on behalf of admin and vice versa. It is solved, but dreary.
A quick search turned up another result: www.4t-niagara.com/tray.html
But the experience is not very good. The features and settings of the program are almost perfect - both keyboard shortcuts, and additional icons in the taskbar, and RMB for minimization without adding extra buttons, and even setting how to open applications minimized to the tray - in one or two clicks.
But:
- in a strange way, additional buttons are not displayed in a number of windows (for example, in my laptop; the RMB functionality on the standard minimize button, at the same time, works)
- while they are displayed in windows with custom "wrappers" (office , maxton, firefox)
- RMB functionality on minimize for minimizing to tray does not work in all custom windows - everything is OK for Firefox, not for office\maxton; perhaps it depends on the implementation of the corresponding programs by the authors, but this does not make it easier for me; you can turn on the display of additional buttons in them, but they often "get in the way", and in general, this violates the uniformity of use
- I have Aero on top of Win8.1 - maybe the reason is this: when the application is minimized to tray, the whole taskbar becomes "blurry" ( while maintaining performance) until the first click on it, which is very disturbing
- does not work correctly with programs that already have tray icons (for example, mutorrent) - creates a duplicate, although it should be ignored - uncritical, but unpleasant
- sometimes leaves their custom buttons hanging on the screen after "their" window is already minimized
- could not get the always on top function to work by clicking on the minimize or close keys with a keyboard modifier - the setting was made, but the function does not work
- in the window menu (which by Alt + Space) you can add items for the same functions, but they didn’t work for me - you click - it doesn’t work, although minimizing by RMB / additional buttons / hotkeys works. Experiments have shown that only minimization works for me, other functions (always on top, roll up \ down) do not work regardless of the assigned call method.
In general, there is no stable repeatability of the result (does not work in all windows) + conflicts with AeroGlass Under Win8.1 + minor glitches + nothing works except minimization.
