Merge Paths in Illustrator?

Greetings to all wanderers. I drew an illustration with a pen, essentially a bunch of open paths, the ends of which are hidden on top of each other. Visually, the picture seems to be finished and ready for painting, but I can’t combine the contours in any way, the program does not give. What to do, how to be? And how can I finish this coloring? If the contours were drawn simply as a line drawing, i.e. without taking into account the fill, then most likely their simple fill on such a complex drawing will not solve the problem with the fill. I would duplicate the strokes "one floor below" (leaving visible and blocking the layers with strokes) and, resetting the outlines, would solve the issue with the fill color separately for each shape. You may need to finish drawing the shapes where there seems to be no contour, but the color is needed (for example, if the fill is needed outside the shape formed by strokes).

Or in general, take a screen, throw this screen back into illustrator, and activate tracing to a vector from a photo

can be easier. convert contours to curves. merge. and then you can fill it) using the creation of shapes, poke at unpainted places (by first selecting our large solid outline in the curves), and paint over with a fill
