Mercurial. Updating a working copy to a new revision when there are uncommitted changes, how easy?

Good afternoon.
Imagine that we are making some edits in the working copy, new revisions appear on the server that we download from the server and now we want to move the working directory up the revisions so that we can make our edits on top of the new revisions. Now I do this by moving uncommitted files to the shelf, then update to the latest revision and unloading from the shelf back to the working directory. Now this operation has become quite frequent, is it possible to somehow reduce the number of movements?
Thank you.
