Magento catalog_fulltext why does reindex hang?

I'm trying to re-index the catalog - it hangs (or takes a very long time) on catalogsearch_fulltext. Long is more than an hour. There are 18k products in the database. The server has 4Gb RAM. Tried to do truncate catalogsearch_fulltext - didn't help.

do it from the console, optimize mysql settings
At the very least, buy a normal Magento hosting like I have for my clients.

For 5 years of working on the Russian assembly of Magento, I met and eliminated 3 defects in Magento Community Edition when working with calculation tables (indexes). Moreover, in Magento Community Edition, they, apparently, have not been eliminated:

I am glad that in Magento 2 the core development process became more open and convenient: it is convenient to report defects to the development team , and they promptly eliminate them.
