Macbook air 2014 poor wifi reception when closed, hardware or software limitation?

Good afternoon!
The question is, I use Macbook air as a home computer with an external display connected, a magic keyboard and a classic mouse.
in the fully closed position, the wifi signal is quite weak, as soon as I open the lid, it noticeably increases significantly.
Is it worth using the computer in the closed position at all?
