Actually the next question: is it possible to create an association of office files (such as .doc, .xls) located on a local disk for opening directly in Google docs, through a browser?

.xls will probably not work, at least in a simple way, because their viewer does not yet support it ...
The rest of the files can be done like this - put a plug-in like this in the browser:
