Linux Mint 17/64b: Freezes for 1 second every N seconds. Why?
Once every n seconds, the GUI freezes for a second, although everything works. When it comes off, everything that you did during the sticky was recorded. It is sometimes treated by switching to standby mode and everything works ok.

In general, I found a solution on the official Linux Mint forum.
The decision is from 2015. I have 2018 and Mint 18.3 but the solution works.
It turned out that this is done by the Cinnamon panel applet, which shows the temperature of the processor.
The fact is that this applet is still present in the list of available applets, and has not been supported by the developer for more than 5 years.
The longer the system runs, the more latency accumulates. At first imperceptibly, after a few hours already in the region of 0.2-0.3 seconds, after a couple of days of uptime (if the computer is only put to sleep, and not turned off) it turns into a freeze and devouring the processor for more than a second every 2-3 seconds and it starts to work already impossible.
Removed the applet. Really everything is fine. At the same time, I myself suspected that the matter was in one of the applets, but the changes are not visible after deleting the applet. This can only be seen after a system reboot. That is, I deleted all the applets and did not see any positive changes, since they become noticeable only after the system is rebooted.
